snippets and a shoutout to CCC

....maceo had the best hair. it was long and feathered and framed his face in a little 70s shag. it also made him look very girly. i wanted to wait until he turned 1 for his first cut but daycare kept placing it up in a ponytail and he'd scream bloody murder every time we tried to pull the rubber band out. after a failed attempt at a mod cut (he looked a little too much like davey from the monkees) i gave him a mini mullet. our little babe is now a little boy. still adorable but for a few days we kept staring at him thinking how much he resembled taco now and wondering where our little mace face went. everyone noticed the change. all of tacos little friends at CCC came up to mace and recounted stories of their haircuts. it was like he'd joined a special club.

....it pains me to think about CCC closing in September. the Times is in straights and had to sell the property to the highest bidder. There is hopes of a future CCC reincarnation but it will take time and we are all scrambling for alternate care. 75 families all joining the wait lists for downtown care. ugh. while our plight is daunting, i feel more empathy for the teachers. several have been there for almost 20 years. the avg in the infant room is at least 10. we haven't seen any other daycare yet w/ the same teacher retention rates. they are absolutely doing something right in caring for our children and we hope that they are able to find an alternate location.

... CCC is dear to our entire family. my inlaws visit the boys at the center once or twice a week. i nurse mace at lunch every day. freddie has done most of the dropoff and pickup for the past 2 years. the teachers have nurtured every developmental milestone in our kids with love and affection and they've been integral to our parenting. I cried the day we had to pull the boys from CCC when j1 and i were out of work. we were overjoyed when peggy was able to place us again.

....one shining example of their commitment is in one of the infant room teachers, patty. as lead teacher, she is primary caregiver for infants entering the center. as i've noted in earlier posts, mace was a bit of a spirited babe. being a pro, patty didn't find his incessant crying overwhelming. constantly trying her best to figure out what makes each babe tick, she noticed that mace preferred the teachers w/ glasses. he'd lunge at them as they walked in the door and was a pretty vocal wailer otherwise. connecting that mom and dad also wore glasses she decided to give it a go. patty doesn't wear eyeglasses so she purchased a couple cheapo sunglasses at the dollar store and popped out the lenses. she wore them around for a week or so until mace came to accept her as his caregiver during the day. stylish, a la revenge of the nerds. patty helped mace find his independence and become confident in his new surroundings while being very sensitive to his quirks. we couldn't ask for more. Thank you CCC!
