...musings from a mom exhausted.
...not just physically but mentally drained. taco's working on yet another week home from daycare. started w/ projectile vomiting on sat. that's stopped but the runs haven't so we've got to keep him home, aka blowout central. jala's mum and dad came to stay for a few nights so we could still go to work. we're ever so grateful. gotta save some of that time for shmoo. the downside is that 4 adults, 1 sick babe and crazy dog in 800 sf is "cozy". little quality time w/ taco and even less w/ the husband has left me annoyed, snippy, and unusually weepy. meow meow meow. when i'm feeling this out of control of my immediate environment, all my feelings of inadequacy creep up. both personal and professional. why can't we take care of 1 sick kid for a week? our parents did it without any help. mine came to the states w/ a suitcase and 3 kids and lived in a single room w/ their friends until they were able to get a place of their own. and if i can't be a supermom, then shouldn't the tradeoff be my stellar career? nope. nothing stellar there. i make good money and like my colleagues and clients, but at the end of the day its just a paycheck. no vast pockets of personal satisfaction. like i said, meow meow mow. tomorrow will be better. tgif.
...in my (attainable) ideal world, the grandparents sell their house sooner vs later, move closer so they can still help w/ the kids and we can comfortably live in our teeny cottage for a few more years.

...the trip to vancouver was AWESOME. we had the yummiest dim sum and great company. it was nice to get away for a couple days. maeve even let taco jump on boots (but not dora) and began to embrace the fact she'd have to share the house w/ her own baby sibling in a few months. taco blessed us w/ a 3 hr nap in the car on the way home.
...3 more days to emerald downs. our peps group is going to the races. woo hooo!
...anyone seen the trifecta of asian lead movies out? 21,forbidden kingdom, harold&kumar? I just read a review of them on ricedaddies. i knew they'd revised the all asian guys (including hometown favorite Mike Aponte) from 21 to caucasian but hadn't heard the plot for forbidden kingdom is about a caucasian kid obsessed with kung fu going back in time. Lame.
We struggle w/ how to pass along our filipino heritage. both our parents thought it would be easier for their kids to assimilate if they were only taught english. w/out the language, our best way to pass on our culture is through food, family and values. it would be nice if mass media could hook us up with some positive asian american role models. based on the hollywood alterations of what could have been all asian casts, i'm guessing thats a ways away. oh well, there's always ...

BOO!! Poor sick Taco! I hope he feels a lot better really soon.
Sorry you're having a bummer week. When's the Dr appt? Maybe a little news about Schmoo will cheer you up? If not, Mom's night...
And for the record, you're a kick-ass mom (but I know exactly how you feel).
