just shy of 33 weeks...

...and insomnia strikes again. uber activity coming from ray ray, enough that the kicking has jostled me out of a not so deep sleep numerous times this morning. i could just be stressed about meeting work deadlines this week. regardless, its sunday and waaay to early to go into work.

...had my first prenatal massage this week. it was one of those massages that was ok during it but didn't hit me how awesome i felt until i got up off the table. they lay a bunch of props on the table creating a big mold around your face and belly so you can lay down. its a bit of gymnastics to get up onto them but worth it.

...this month is hitting me the hardest physically. ray ray is huge, its uncomfortable to sleep, hard time breathing, my back hurts, braxton hicks contractions are no fun, its difficult to dress or put shoes on... all the usual prego accoutrements. we started birthing class and along with 7 other couples it strikes me how normal all of this is. unfortunately, the power of suggestion is bringing on NEW aches and pains. until birthing class, I had never heard of your hips popping out as a result of prego hormones but mine just started.

...saw a video of the birth and afterbirth. jala had been asking if i wanted to hold the baby right after birth, where they transfer the babe to your chest in one fell swoop while he's still on the umbilical cord and still retains all the gooeyness of his primary residence the past 9 months, my uterus. i'd been steadfast in thinking, nah, thats ok, take him and clean him up first and THEN pass him onto me. the video clinched it. i had no romantic notion of birth. do the studies really show a tremendous difference in bonding based on a few minutes lag? over it.

...many thanks to everyone who helped us celebrate rayray's arrival at this weekends baby shower! i was totally surprised, first by my sister's visit and then with the shower. mad props to ame, lavina, peter and heather for hosting and to jala for being the bestest husband ever.

29 weeks

...23 weeks ago we found out we were pregnant, seems like a very long time ago. its amazing to think ray ray will be here in 10 weeks. whoa. we're not ready! reality of what i'd like to get done before he's born is hitting me hard. things like oh, plan a wedding, finish setting up the nursery, wrap up all my work projects, taxes, change my name. ack, it'll all get done. that's my mantra to avoid stressing.

...we're just started thinking about the birthing process. the labor doula thing might not happen, for a thousand bucks i'm sure they provide an excellent service, but hey, we could use a thousand bucks in better ways. the postnatal doula is still on the table. i mean, someone to come help you breastfeed, light housework and help you adjust sounds AWESOME. we'll see, i know our moms and ame will be around for a few weeks.

...work has been horrendous this week, so props to jala for taking care of me the few hours i have been home.

...just started talking about the birthing process. we start birthing classes soon at the hospital. i'm all about medicating pain. we're having the kid in a HOSPITAL, we should take advantage of all their services including the epidural. i'm over the natural childbirth stigma. at the end of the day, i'm a wimp. i don't like being in pain.

...someone asked me the other day if i enjoyed being pregnant. i really can't say i love it but i don't hate it either. my body is no longer my own, i don't recognize it in the mirror yet i can't remember what it felt like to not be pregnant. it's all very alien. sleeping is difficult and my back is sore by the end of the day. oh and the worst is urinary incontinence. nothing major, just a little when i sneeze in the morning. i've threated to wear depends despite jala's protests. simultaneously, i'm in awe that there is another life in me, our son. and grateful that all is going well.
